We continue to work on reforming Ukraine’s environmental protection system and ensuring the fulfillment of Ukraine’s European integration obligations in the environmental sector.
As part of this process, there will be held a discussion of the policy paper entitled «The reform of biodiversity conservation system: Ukraine on the way to the EU» with representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The document contains a detailed analysis of the problems related to biodiversity conservation, management of the Emerald Network sites, and transposition of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives into the national legislation of Ukraine.
The discussion is aimed at finding effective solutions to harmonize national legislation in the field of biodiversity and habitat conservation with EU standards.
The following key issues will be considered:
1. Gaps in the regulatory framework of biodiversity and habitats conservation, mechanisms for their elimination.
2. Institutional challenges and ways of improving the management of biodiversity and natural resources conservation.
3. Mechanisms for ensuring compliance with legislation on the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources.
4. Funding for biodiversity and natural resources conservation measures, economic incentives.
The meeting will be a platform for an open dialogue between representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and EPL experts working on different issues of the biodiversity conservation system. We hope that the constructive discussion will contribute to real changes in the environmental policy of Ukraine, and will also become a real step towards Ukraine’s implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives.
