We are happy to present final results of the joint study “Civil space for participation in climate policies in Colombia, Georgia and Ukraine”.
This comprehensive study investigates whether and how civil society organizations are involved in national climate policy processes in Colombia, Ukraine and Georgia. The analysis addresses the political and legal framework for participation, existing state and civil society structures, and concrete participation processes in the three countries especially with regard to the revision process of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Together with the project partners and local actors, various obstacles were identified that impede effective participation of civil society. The study derives country-specific recommendations on how participation in climate issues can be improved and consolidated in the future. In addition, the study presents good practice examples for participation in climate policy from eight other countries that can point the way forward.
The study was conducted within the international project “Strengthening civil society for paving the way to a sustainable decarbonisation” (ZIVIKLI) in close cooperation with the Independent Institute for Environmental Issues (UfU), Berlin, Germany and CENSAT Agua Viva (Friends of the Earth Colombia), Center for Environmental Initiatives Ecoaction, Ukraine, International charitable organization “Environment-People-Law”, Ukraine, and Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth, Georgia.
