On September 30 – October 4, 2002, EPL held the training “Access to Justice in Environmental Matters” for participants from Kazakhstan.
It was held within the framework of the project “Supporting Kazakhstan in implementation of the Aarhus convention provisions” with financial support of DANCEE (Danish cooperation on environment in Eastern Europe) and Danish Agency of environmental protection.
The training brought together the representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection (Environmental Policy Department), environmental NGOs and Chair of natural resources and environmental law department of Kazakhstan State University named after Al-Faraby.
The main objective of the training was to create possibilities for using Ukrainian experience in Kazakhstan.
The representatives of “EPL”, “EcoPravo-Kharkiv”, and “EcoPravo-Kyiv” were involved as a trainers. During the training kazakh participants visited NGO “WETI” and State Department of Ecology and Natural Resources in Lviv region.
“EPL” staff prepared materials on environmental legislation and on judicial system of Ukraine; articles and publications concerning barriers in access to justice in environmental matters.
EPL also prepared materials from its own case law, which uncovers mechanism and case strategy of protection of citizen rights to environmental information and participation in environmental decision-making process.
