International charitable organization Environment-People-Law is pleased to announce that there has been launched a new project “Strengthening Participatory Democracy for Effective Environmental Protection in Ukraine” supported by United Nations Democracy Fund. The project is jointly realized by three organizations – International charitable organization Environment-People-Law, Kharkiv city non-governmental organization EcoPravo-Kharkiv, public environmental law organization EcoPravo-Kyiv and lasts from 1 December 2013 until 30 December 2015.The project aims to increase the capacity of civil society in Ukraine to protect their environmental and participatory rights. Planned actions include creation of a national network of centers of environmental pro bono legal aid; raising the capacity of the network members through 4 trainings and creation of 4 web-sites; media campaign focusing on free legal aid and environmental rights in 4 regions of Ukraine; pro bono legal aid to local communities; publication of a guidebook for the public on ways of public participation in environmental decision-making; publication of a policy paper on public participation in environmental decision-making; launching an electronic system of environmental information in Kyiv region; and an international symposium for public interest environmental lawyers.
