On 26 February 2016, the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine held the meeting on expansion of the Holosiyivskyi national natural park in Kyiv and creation of a new national natural park on the southern outskirts of Kyiv.The meeting gathered scholars, staff of the Ministry of Environment, administration of the National park “Holosiyivskyi”, NGOs and representatives of local communities. All participants agreed on both the need to expand the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” and the need to create a new national natural park via reorganization of Boyarka forest research station.
It was suggested to include to the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” within Kyiv the regional landscape park “Dnister islands” (1214,99 ha), the local natural reserve “Olzhyn and Kozachyi islands” (470 ha that are part of the regional landscape park “Dnipro islands”); Exhibition center of Ukraine (land lots of about 110 ha covered with forest and park vegetation); the chief astronomic observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (30 ha, part of the regional landscape park “Holosiyiv”); local natural reserve “Zhukiv island” (196 ha); pinery terrace of the Dnipro to the east from Stolychnyi highway (about 110 ha); “Seriakove” tract, “Bakalovshchyna” tract (about 125 ha), “Tserkovshchyna” tract.

Participants of the meeting developed an algorithm of promoting expansion of the fund of protected areas in Kyiv and Kyiv region using the scheme published by EPL in the compendium “Revealing territories that can be declared as protected areas”1.
The participants created a working group headed by the director of the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” M. Drobot aimed at maintaining expansion of the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” and developing materials for creation of a new national park in Kyiv-Sviatoshyn district.
