On May 28-29, 2019, the EU project “Ukrainian civil society for European-style waste management” will hold the international conference “Ukraine’s joining the Minamata Convention on mercury and its implementation – the priority for preserving health and environment” in Lviv.
The agenda will include the following topics:

International and European experience of implementation of the Minamata Convention on mercury
Mercury-containing waste management in Ukraine
Modern technologies of mercury-containing waste treatment
Challenges on the way towards Ukraine’s joining the Minamata Convention on mercury and its effective management

Background:
The EU project “Ukrainian civil society for European-style waste management” is implemented by the International Charitable Organization “Environment-People-Law” (EPL) in partnership with the non-governmental organization Environmental Initiatives (EI). It aims to increase effectiveness of the waste management system in Ukraine and to decrease negative impact of waste on the environment. Duration: July 2016 – July 2019.
Environment-People-Law focuses on promoting the rule of law for environmental protection, advancement of environmental education and culture in Ukraine.
Environmental Initiatives works to protect the right of Ukrainians to safe and healthy environment.
