We invite everyone interested in nature to take part in the First All-Ukrainian Bioblitz, which will take place from May 19 to June 8, 2025.
What is a Bioblitz?
A bioblitz is a large-scale nature event during which participants photograph and document plants, animals, fungi, and other living organisms.
Observations are uploaded through the iNaturalist mobile app or the iNaturalist website on a computer.
Thanks to iNaturalist, around 1.4 million observations of living organisms in Ukraine have already been collected. Together with you, we hope to break all records during this event!
The more observations – the better!
Each photo becomes available to professional biologists who help identify species correctly.
In this way, thousands of enthusiasts contribute to global biodiversity data collection.
This time, the bioblitz will focus entirely on Ukraine – a unique opportunity to collect valuable information about its nature from all corners of the country.
How to Participate?
Anyone can join – from school students to professional scientists. To participate:
- Install the free iNaturalist mobile app, and create a profile on iNaturalist (if you don’t have one yet) via this link: https://www.inaturalist.org/
- Join the Bioblitz project on iNaturalist (see instructions below)
Important: Only by joining the bioblitz project according to the instructions will your observations be counted.
- Make observations of wild plants, animals, or fungi between May 19 and June 8, 2025 in Ukraine
- Upload your observations to iNaturalist by June 15, 2025 – after that, they will automatically be included in the project.
Observations made or uploaded on other dates are still valuable but will not be counted in the bioblitz results.
Evaluation and Awards
The Bioblitz is not only an important scientific event but also a competition with awards!
Winners will be determined in the following categories:
- The largest number of observations uploaded
(even of the same species, if found in different places or as different individuals) - The highest number of species observed
- Most interesting species discovered
- Most active participants in each region
Ukrainian and Czech scientists will help identify species.
Bioblitz results will be announced on July 1, 2025.
Additional Events
Before the bioblitz, five webinars will be held featuring exciting speakers from Ukraine, Czechia, and other countries.
The webinars will be broadcast live on the Facebook page of the NGO Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group:

You are welcome to ask questions during the live stream.
Each webinar will be announced separately on the page.
Join us, explore nature, and contribute to the conservation of Ukraine’s biodiversity!
