On October 7, 2016, the session of the Sumy Regional Council decided to establish an administrative body in the regional landscape park “Seymskyi.” A communal enterprise will serve as administrative body.
The regional landscape park “Seymskyi” is Ukraine’s largest protected area of local importance. Its area is 98,857.9 hectares. The main area is covered with forests and meadows; in flood plains, mostly tributaries of the Sejm, there are swamps and wetlands. Forests are mostly coniferous, deciduous and mixed (purely pine, pine and oak, purely oak, linden and oak, and maple, linden and oak forests).
The park was established by the ordinance of the Head of Sumy Regional State Administration of 14.12.1995 # 237. It took Sumy local authorities 21 year to make a decision about establishment of an administrative body of such a big protected territory. Throughout the lifetime of the park it was not guarded, had no staff and researchers and in fact did not function as a public institution.
Lawyers and environmental scientists of International charitable organization “Environment-People-Law” welcome the decision of the administration of Sumy region and are ready to give free advisory assistance to the newly created park administration.
EPL jointly with Charitable Fund “Kyiv landscape initiative” started collecting furniture and other items for newly created administration of the regional landscape park.
