A news release of the Press center of the Security Service of Ukraine states that employees of the Security Service of Ukraine stooped illegal forest logging in the natural reserve “Lisova perlyna” located in Luhansk region.
The natural reserve was created in Bilokurakyne district in 1998 on the area of 3174,0 ha close to the state border of Ukraine. According to the State Security Service, staff of Bilokurakyne forestry claimed that it was sanitary tree logging. Employees of the security service revealed that foresters did not have mandatory documents and committed other violations of the current legislation in the sphere of forest protection. Totally foresters have cut about five hundred cubic meters of wood.
“Considering characteristics of plantations in Bilokurakine forestry, we can say that there have been cut about 4000 trees belonging to non-technical wood. The loss caused by such violation amounts to 30 mln. UAH, – comments EPL environmentalist Oleksiy Vasyliuk. We believe that the reason for these unauthorized activities is low quality of work of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine that fails to monitor the state of natural reserves in all regions of Ukraine. Forestries dare to commit such large-scale violations because they know that there will be no inspections”.
EPL addressed the Security Service of Ukraine with a request to inspect other natural reserves in Luhansk region on territories controlled by Ukraine.
