On 24 February, Environmental Commission of Kyiv municipality considered the issue of setting protective zones around the territory of the National natural park “Holosiyivskyi”.
The project of protected zones of the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” was developed in 2011. But because of the prosecutor’s protest, Kyiv municipality refused to approve the project. Therefore, the national natural park continues working without protective zones.
The national natural park “Holosiyivskyi” was created in 2007 instead of the regional landscape park “Holosiyivskyi”. The area of the regional landscape park was 5600 ha while the newly created national park was created on the area of 4300 ha, which is the area approved by Kyiv municipality. In this way, the rest of Holosiyivskyi forest lost its protected status. To some extend this issue could be solved via establishing the protective zone of the national natural park. But Kyiv municipality does not want to approve protective zones on the forest territories that have already been allocated for construction works.
Residents of Holosiyivskyi district collected over10000 votes in support of the idea and filed a petition about the necessity to approve protective zones. The commission supported the petition and created a commission at Kyiv municipality to promote approval of protective zones of the national natural park “Holosiyivskyi”. EPL representative was included into this commission. Further news on the issue will be further communicated.
