We continuing analyzing losses of natural reserve fund in the regions of Ukraine and next goes Zaporizhzhia region, which has the most developed agricultural sector.
In the region, there are 336 objects of protected areas totally covering 152422.9624 hectares. The actual area of protected areas in the region is 124242.9624 ha, ie 4.57% of the total area of the region.
However, since the 1970s, there have been created far more territories and protected areas than the current statistics show. Therefore, in order to analyze the data about the lost territories of protected areas, environmental scientists and volunteers of EPL received copies of all decisions of state agencies on creation of protected objects since 1971 from the State Archives of Zaporizhzhia region and compared them with the list of current protected areas, according to information published by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine in 2016.
As a result of the analysis, there were found 147 protected areas, which for various reasons were not found on the list of protected areas of Zaporizhzhia region as of 2016. Thus, the total losses are 9.04% of the total area of all created protected areas of Zaporizhzhia region starting from the XXth century.
