EPL’s mission is the rule of law for environmental protection. It is impossible to save the environment alone. Therefore, during the year, our EkoSOS 2022 hotline gathered like-minded people in communities across Ukraine whose environmental rights were violated. Together with our clients and colleagues from other organizations, we looked for the root of the problems and tried to solve them. After all, in today’s environmental conditions, everyone is responsible for our future. Only as a group can we change the situation for the better and preserve a safe environment for our children with clean air and fresh water, so your contribution is no less valuable than activities of EPL team. Importantly, people do not stand aside, they join the noble cause of preserving the environment.
Currently, the number of environmentally conscious people is increasing. We will give examples of problems brought to us by people whose priority is protection of the environment, fundamental rights and interests, because a lot depends on each of us: efforts of each person together lead to big changes.
Therefore, environmentally conscious citizens of the country systematically addressed the EcoSOS hotline in 2022 with the aim to solve the problem related to:
unauthorized cutting of greenery in settlements and on the territories of residential areas;
protection of rivers that also belong to the Emerald network;
construction projects that threaten the environment, preservation of more than a hundred hectares of forests and meadows, planned selective sanitary felling;
preservation of a unique reservoir, opposition to the construction works on the banks of the water reservoir;
operation of enterprises that violated the rights to an environment safe for life and health, namely: the factory for production of paint and varnish products LLC “Policolor”, Kharkiv coke plant “Novomet”;
illegal functioning of the landfill, which has already exhausted its resource;
functioning of pig farms that create terrible, harmful conditions for people’s lives and health;
illegal use of herbicides, pesticides and agrochemicals by farmers;
intentional pollution of river tributaries, construction works in the forest park;
environmental impact assessment procedures for certain types of activities;
large-scale development of a sandstone quarry in the territory protected by the Ramsar Convention;
illegal actions of Ukravtodor, which completely ignored demands of communities and tried to build am autobahn;
EPL team is inspired by the fact that, despite the war, Ukrainians are concerned about environmental problems. Therefore, never give up, even if the chances of winning are very slim. Even if you lose, your defeat can be a stepping stone to a future victory or cause a great change in people’s minds! After allan educated and responsible environmentally conscious civil society is a prerequisite for effective environmental protection.
