For many years, residents of the village of Zalistsi in the Ternopil region have been watching the growing use of pesticides and agrochemicals of dubious quality by local farmers. EPL team also got involved in solving this issue. We have already repeatedly talked about the development of this case on our information resources: http://surl.li/jkhhk, http://surl.li/jkhhp.
According to the letter, which was sent by the Ternopil military administration to the local activist and the Kremenets military administration, the number of calls to the government hotline and the telephone hotline of the regional military administration regarding the treatment of fields with unknown chemicals is significant. Such chemicals are believed to have a negative impact on human health and the environment. As a response to this situation, the Ternopil military regional administration proposed to create a special commission, which will include representatives of relevant services, as well as the local activist who made complaints.
The main purpose of the commission will be to carry out an on-site research to confirm or refute the facts stated in citizens’ appeals. We hope that this approach is proposed in order to study the situation on the ground and make an objective conclusion about the state of environmental security of the village of Zalistsi. Participation of the activist in the work of the commission is supposed to ensure that public opinion is taken into account regarding decision-making based on the results of conducted research.
We hope that the creation of the commission will help stop illegal and harmful land cultivation in the village. At the same time, we call on the authorities not to limit themselves to the creation of a commission, but to take decisive measures to ban the use of dangerous agrochemicals that threaten human health and nature.
