Energy supply has become more stable in India
India’s government aims to expand energy access to more of the population and improve infrastructure, but electricity generation is mostly based on fossil fuels (currently at 82% of the energy mix). It does however have a target to quadruple renewable power generation by 2022 to 175 gigawatts.
Rapid economic growth has increased the burden on India’s energy infrastructure, but but work is being done to increase capacity and efficiency upgrades are reducing losses between electricity generation and reaching the consumer.
One fifth of India’s population has no access to electricity. Government scheme Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana is working on improving rural electrification.
