International charitable organization “Environment-People-Law” (EPL) and the Bureau of Environmental Investigations (BEI) announce the launch of the platform “Models of Green Recovery: Kakhovka HPP” to elaborate solutions for the restoration of the lower Dnipro area after the Kakhovka Hydro Power Plant (HPP) disaster.
Destruction of the Kakhovka HPP and Kakhovka Water Reservoir caused unprecedented environmental, economic and social catastrophes. Overcoming the consequences of the disaster requires mobilization of domestic and global resources. In the past, construction of the Kakhovka HPP became a stress for nature (destruction of the unique ecosystem of the lower reaches of the Dnipro and Velykyi Luh), people (eviction of thousands of residents of flooded villages), and the economy (destruction of traditional farming). Destruction of the Kakhovka HPP became an even greater stress, which was accompanied by the death of people and complete destruction of the ecosystem of the Kakhovka Reservoir, and destruction of local economy.
However, Ukraine, as a state living in the 21st century and looking forward into the future, needs solutions that reflect the realities of today and take into account not only the economic dimension, but also environmental and social ones. This requires consolidated efforts of experts from different sectors, analysis of different development scenarios. To participate in the development of various scenarios, we invite all experts who are ready to devote their time and efforts to develop models that will be beneficial for people, nature, and economy.
Everyone who is interested in the idea of joint study of the impact of the Kakhovka HPP breach and development of models of complex solutions, is invited to fill out a short Google questionnaire at the following link: https://forms.gle/NxH6UYkUU7pD3kNK8
