Today started the summer school for graduated of the course “International and comparative environmental law”, which is taking place at Zhdenievo, Volovetsky distric, Zakarpattya region, 4-7 June, 2016.
In the XXI century the mankind faces an important challenge: protection of the environment or its destruction for the sake of economic development. Over the last 50-70 years, the “green face” of the planet has incredibly changed. Forest are drastically cut, seashores are captured for unreasonable construction works, water bodies and ambient air are severely polluted, minerals are exhausted. On the other hand, we have to remember that the population of the Earth is constantly growing and people need jobs to make their living.
The conflict between economic development and preservation of environment that is easily sacrificed lead to realization of the fact that without special legal norms for environmental protection we will soon face the situation depicted in post-apocalyptic movies. Legal instruments in national legislations and international environmental law can help protect the environment, prevent the apocalypses that people cause with their actions.
The summer school organized by EPL will help train devoted, motivated environment defenders whom the organizations will help master instruments of international environmental law as an effective instrument of protecting the planet.
