EPL ecologists and volunteers continue information search regarding the areas of nature and reserve fund that were cancelled in the regions for different reasons. The next part of the research is Khmelnytsk region.
As of January 1, 2015 in Khmelnytsk region there are 522 sites of nature and reserve fund (NRF) with total area of 328456,2523 ha that makes up 15,15 % from the total area of the regions.. However, in Khmelnytsk region there were more NRF sites and areas than is listed in the aforementioned statistical data. To find the information on the lost NRF areas we obtained in the State Archive of Khmelnytsk region copies of all the decisions taken by the regional state bodies on establishment of the reserve sites starting with 1969, and conducted comparative analysis with the list of present NRF sites according to the data published by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine published in 2016.
While analyzing the documents we have found information on 108 NRF sites and areas of the national and local significance which were cancelled at different time. Their total area is 8057,59 ha and that makes up 24,5 % from the total area of all NRF sites in the region. Out of them 28 sites (2673,4 ha) were cancelled due to the fact that they became part of new reserve units which are larger in terms of area. Among the cancelled sites are forest reserve «Satanivskyi», park-monument of garden and park art “Satanivska Perlyna” (“Satanivska Pearl”), forest reserve “Rakhnovetskyi”, regional landscape park “Malyovanka”, botanic reserve of local significance “Haiduchyno”, forest reserve of local significance “Novykivskyi”, landscape reserve “Staroushytskyi”, complex nature monument “Skovorodetski Krayevydy” (Skovorodetski Landscapes). Several sites were cancelled due to physical damage or overdrying. Reasons for cancellation of 63 NRF sites with total area of 5248,89 ha are unknown, though actually all these sites are forest areas and one can assume that their liquidation was initiated by forestry enterprises.
Generally, out of 108 sites we have found information on liquidation circumstances regarding 45 sites with total area of 2808,7 ha, which were present in the establishment list, but were absent in the list of NRF sites and areas of the national and local significance situated in Khmelnytsk region, and that makes up 8,5 % from the total number of NRF sites in the region as of January 1, 2015.
