Several months ago, the territory of the regional landscape park “Lysa hora” in Kyiv was inhabited by unknown camps. This information came from local residents. Results of the exploration conducted jointly by EPL environmentalists and activists of the nature protection group “Zelene maibutnie” proved that the protected forests have been damaged on the slopes of the mountain. According to rough calculations, the damage caused is worth 67 000 UAH.
Damage to vegetation in territories of protected areas is punished by fines that are calculated according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 24 July 2013 #541 about approved taxes to calculate amounts of damage caused by violation of legislation on protected areas within territories and objects of protected areas. Minimal fine for one tree that was cut or damaged is 82 UAH for trees with trunk diameter less than 10 cm, and maximum fine is over 6000 UAH for trees with trunk diameter more than 50 cm.
Having measured all stumps (124) around the camp, environmentalists revealed that the amount of losses is 67 268 UAH. It is worth noting that almost all tree around the camp were cut with an axe at different heights, which can be taken for sanitary wood cutting performed last year on the Lysa mountain by Kyivzelenbud company.
In view of this, environmentalist submitted complaints to the State Environmental Inspectorate and Kyiv city state administration.

Lysa mountain is Kyiv regional landscape park created to protect the unique cultural, historical and natural heritage. The park is located not far from the center of the capital and therefore attracts attention of many kyivites and guests of the city but the forest on Lysa mountain is the wildest in the park zone of Kyiv. The oaks here are 150-300 years old, and presence of rare species of flora and fauns listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and international conventions makes it necessary to apply strict limitations for nature protection in the territory of the regional landscape park.
