This Day is celebrated because of the announcement by meteorologists the need to protect climate as resource for well-being of present and future generations. Climate, weather natural disasters have essential impact on food, life and property security, water resources, recreation and sustainable development of all countries. For the first time the phenomenon of increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere was discussed at the global level in 1992 – on Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Representatives from more than 180 countries have signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This agreement defines the general principles of state actions directed at stabilization of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at a level that does not threaten the Earth’s climate system with global anthropogenic pressure. |
