Policy brief on problems and urgent solutions in the forest management sector in Ukraine

Absence of effective management system, transparency in forest management, and qualitative
legal system is one of the main reasons for corruption in forest industry and social dissatisfaction with
the actions of forest officers.
At the same time, wood is a renewable natural resource, and EU and North American
experience indicates that it is possible to combine both economic and environmental functions of
forest. That is why we suggest a series of urgent steps, which can correct the situation in the forest
industry of Ukraine.
